The Destination: Where This Challenge Will Take You!
Heroes are courageous - they sometimes slay dragons to save whole villages! But there are also everyday acts of courage like raising your hand in class or trying a new stunt on your skateboard. Your team will create and present a story of a Heroic Adventure that includes a Personal Challenge for the Hero to overcome. The Presentation will be done in the style of Theater in the Round and will include a Technical Set Piece that brings your Story to life. And you have to do everything without electricity! It’s time for your hero to show brilliant courage to those who surround your stage.

Broadway came to Tennessee, or so thought the Appraisers! This team captivated the audience as they told an intriguing and engrossing story about a boy searching for his father. The massive pirate ship they created fully utilized the entire stage and sent the audience on a virtual sail upon the high seas. The creative and effective staging provided a wonderful theatrical experience, while the entertaining harmonies of the barbershop septet was music to our ears! This performance left the audience with dropped jaws, goosebumps and tears in the eyes!

From life to death…to the underworld! What a trip! The APpraisers were awestruck when they learned how this team used everyday materials to create a complex mechanism that transformed a living tree into a dead tree, then into a living totem pole. This team used a gear made out of a bike tire, ballbearings made out of marbles, and a tracked release mechanism made out of hand-made spring-loaded clips to achieve the impossible! This technical set piece was ingenious!

Cleverly crafted parodies of stock characters, music interludes, and stylistic representations of authentic settings portrayed the ambiance of the genre to perfection. From soup to nuts, it had it all; a sophisticated presentation of style and showmanship!
